Do you obey God because you’re afraid of Him? Do you obey God because you feel guilty and dirty? Do you obey God because you feel duty bound and obligated? On a day-to-day basis, what motivates your obedience to God?
God wants the church to live holy and obedient lives. We communicate something about the character and nature of God through our obedience. But we also communicate something about the character and nature of God through what drives our motivation to obey.
So for three weeks, we’ll explore the topic of Gospel-driven motivation in the Christian life. When our motivation for obedience is not rooted in the gospel, it turns obedience into a exercise of mere rule-keeping. But when the gospel is driving our motivation, God is honored, and our obedience becomes a joyful exercise of responding to God’s love for us.
