Our Deacons

Deacons are servants that oversee specific areas of practical service in the church (Acts 6:1-6). These servants have been recognized as deacons by our congregation.

Matthew Evert

Deacon of Music | matt@hrfellowship.org

Matthew is the deacon of music for Hampton Roads Fellowship. He is a Hampton Roads native, born and raised in Yorktown, VA, and grew up attending church on the Peninsula. It wasn't until 2013 however, upon discovering Hampton Roads Fellowship, that the Lord revealed the significance and fundamental importance of the local church. With a passion for music and a propensity to serve, he labors with the worship team to lead HRF corporately in song every week. Matt lives in Newport News with his wife Clarissa and their three young boys.

Tara Hayes

Deacon of Children's Ministry | tara@hrfellowship.org

Tara is the deacon of children's ministry for Hampton Roads Fellowship. Tara graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2013, where she met her husband Matt. While dating the Lord led them to Hampton Roads Fellowship and they have been humbled and encouraged to grow in grace alongside their church family here. Tara has a background in Children and Youth Ministry as well as Preschool Education and has been blessed by serving the church in this area. Tara and her husband live in Newport News with their two children: Levi and Lily

Kevin & Shaina Joyce

Kevin & Shaina serve as deacons of member care for Hampton Roads Fellowship. They both love to serve the HRF family by addressing the physical needs of the church and helping to facilitate member care throughout the congregation. Kevin & Shaina graduated from the United States Naval Academy, were married in 2004, and now live in Newport News with their three boys: Asher, Silas, and Ezra.

Nathan Kambic

Deacon of Facilities | nathan@hrfellowship.org

Nathan is the deacon of facilities for Hampton Roads Fellowship. His desire is to use God's gifts to sustain and encourage the body through upkeep and improvement of God's physical assets. Nathan truly enjoys problem solving and creating unique and thought provoking things. One of the ways he enjoys serving is relishing with other brothers and sisters in a good project were is the home or at the church building. He has been a professional chef, a mechanical contractor and currently works for the Air Force. He is married to Rachael and has two boys, Dexter and Titus.

Colin Tucker

Deacon of Finance | colin@hrfellowship.org

Colin is the deacon of finance for Hampton Roads Fellowship. He is a graduate of Robert Morris University and Boston University, obtaining degrees in Business and Project Management. The Lord has created in him a deep desire to follow Him and to serve in the local church. He lives in Newport News with his wife Myisha and four girls: Elise, Olivia, Leah and Carissa. 

Elaina Vazquez-Thompson

Deacon of Hospitality | elaina@hrfellowship.org

Elaina is the deacon of hospitality for Hampton Roads Fellowship. She received her Master's of Urban Ministry from Moody Theological Seminary Chicago, IL in 2008. Soon after graduating she moved to Florida to serve as a Community Development Missionary in Coconut Grove, Miami. She met her husband, Asquith, while they were serving together. They desire to grow in the knowledge of the gospel, church planting and the importance of the local church to one day plant a church in Barbados. They live in Newport News with their son,  Malachi.

Adam Wise

Deacon of A/V | adam@hrfellowship.org

Adam is the deacon of A/V for Hampton Roads Fellowship. He enjoys learning about technology and tinkering with gadgets. His desire is that the technology used at HRF would be as transparent as possible so that the focus can be on God’s Word as it is sung, prayed, preached, proclaimed, and seen. Adam graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Aerospace Engineering and currently works for NASA. He lives in Newport News with his wife, Jamie, and their 3 children.
